Have You Responded to the 2020 Census?

If you have, thank you. If you haven't, there's still time to do so, and it is vitally important that you do. Information from the Census provides Rhode Island with $3.8 billion in funds every year from the federal government. These funds support healthcare, schools, roads, housing, libraries, the environment, and many services and programs in communities across the state.

Responding to the 2020 Census is quick, easy and confidential. It takes just 10 minutes to complete. You can reply online at my2020census.gov or by phone (lines are available in 14 languages). If you have not yet responded, you will shortly receive a printed paper copy of the census questionnaire in the mail, which you can complete and return, if you prefer to respond by this method. 

Don't delay! Your answers will not be shared by the Census Bureau with any other government department, immigration, law enforcement, employers or landlords. The Census does not ask about citizenship, nor does it ask for money or for sensitive information, such as Social Security numbers, bank or credit card information. 

Due to the COVID-19 public health emergency, the U.S. Census Bureau has extended the Census response period from the end of July into mid-August. Official Census Takers have not yet started to make door-to-door visits, but when it is deemed safe to do so, they will follow up and visit households that have not responded online, or by phone or mail. Census Takers will only visit homes that have not responded.
