Poetry Month Activities for Adults & Kids

April is a special time of the year at PCL, as many staff are poetry lovers and even poets themselves!
To engage our adult patrons, librarians will offer a social media-based program throughout the month of April, #ProvidenceCommunityPoetry. Staff will provide occasional writing prompts as well as suggestions of favorite poets and their work. Check out our Facebook page for these posts!
We also have an activity for children. Joseph Morra, Library Manager at Olneyville, created this month-long activity sheet for kids, which is ideal for children in grades K - 6. To help complete it, there are more than 75 poetry titles available through the Ocean State Libraries eZone and many more can be found on Hoopla for Kids. Helpful websites include Kenn Nesbitt's Poetry4Kids:and the children's section at the Academy of American Poets.
Also this month, Wanskuck Library is running a poetry competition for students at nearby Veazie Street Elementary School via Google Classroom.
Finally, please enjoy Smith Hill's Mr. Alan as he reads his own children's poem. Silly Zoo, also available on out YouTube channel!
