Conectando 2022

Last summer, Providence residents enjoyed a wide choice of creative and enriching programs in Spanish, thanks to the Conectando Nuestra Gente initiative from the Community Libraries of Providence (formerly Providence Community Library).

Conectando programs in this list below will continue through July at the Knight Memorial,  Mount Pleasant,  Olneyville, South Providence  and Washington Park Libraries: 

Creative Writing: Sussy Santana

May 2, 9 & 16 - 6:00pm - 7:30pm, Washington Park Library 

In this workshop we explore storytelling through action. We will use creative exercises and memory to inform narrative text.Join us on this creative journey! You don't need previous experience

Sussy Santana is a poet and cultural manager. She has published "Pelo Bueno y otros poemas", "Radio ESL" and "Poemas Domésticos." Her most recent work combines poetry and performance to explore healing as a collective act.

Jardinería (Agricultura Gardening Workshop)

May 7 & 28, 11:00am - 1:00pm, Olneyville Library

From novice to expert, our agriculture workshop is designed to help you get started in gardening.  Come, chat with gardeners, learn about how to garden in Rhode Island, and meet other horticulturists.

Sewing / Sewing

Tuesdays, May 17 - June 21, 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm, Mount Pleasant Library

In this workshop you will learn the basics of sewing. Sewing or attaching a zipper. Straight stitching, making hems, attaching buttons. How to make pillows and make a simple bag.

Dance Workshop with Nader Molina

Wednesdays, May 18 - July 7, 6:30pm - 7:30pm, Olneyville Library

Join us for a Cultural Tour of Colombian folklore and Caribbean influences with this Dance Workshop presented by Nader Molina! You will get a chance to learn some dances from the Columbian Andres such as Sanjuaneros, bambucos, rumbas, montanero merengue, and more!

Latin American folkloric dance teacher with more than 30 years of experience as a dancer, director and scholar of Colombian and Latin American folkloric dance. He has participated in more than 15 international folkloric tours and since his arrival in Rhode Island in 2018, he has been involved in transmitting, preserving and popularizing Colombian folkloric traditions.

Cooking with Ines

May 21, 11:00am - 12:30pm, Knight Memorial Library 

Cooking with Ines from Carolina Family Restaurant. Make a traditional dish from the Dominican Republic.

Latin Cuisine

May 24, 6:00 pm, Mount Pleasant Library 

Participate in this workshop and learn how to prepare two of the most typical and representative dishes of Peruvian cuisine: ceviche and papa a la huancaína.

Ceviche: Fresh fish cut into squares and cooked with lime juice.

Papa a la huancaína: creamed potatoes stuffed with chicken salad.

Small Business

May 25, 5:30pm - 7:00pm, Knight Memorial Library

Small business promotion with Oscar Mejia. The importance of using the tools offered to small businesses by the State of Rhode Island.

Healthy Juices 

June (Day and time to be determined), Mount Pleasant Library

Learn how to prepare smoothies and natural juices with fresh fruits and vegetables.  

Immigration Clinic  

June 11, 10:30am - 12:00pm, Mount Pleasant Library

Those registered for this workshop will have a 15-minute consultation session with an immigration specialist who will be able to answer your questions and clarify your doubts about your particular case or situation.

Small Business

June (Day and time TBD), Mount Pleasant Library
