On-Call Temporary Custodian (2) Positions

Community Libraries of Providence is looking for temp staff to perform custodial duties and be on-call to work in any of our nine neighborhood libraries and offices.
Duties include: dust shelves, furniture and fixtures, sweep, dry mop and vacuum floors; empty waste baskets and discard other materials; clean rest rooms and staff lounges; replace paper goods; soap and other toilet articles.
As needed: strip and wax floors, vacuum and shampoo carpets; window cleaning; sweep and clean stairwells and elevators; clean excessive dirt brought into the buildings due to inclement weather; shovel snow and clear steps, walkways, and sidewalks during and after snowstorms; set up and break down meeting rooms for library events as they occur; outdoor care of library grounds; other duties as assigned.
Requirements: High school graduation or equivalent and some experience cleaning commercial buildings preferred. Must speak and read English. Must be able to lift 50 lbs., and must be physically able to push, lift, bend, stoop, kneel, and work with repetitive motions. Driver’s license and a BCI check are required. Must own vehicle for short travel between buildings.

Hours: Full-time, 37.50 hours per week w/Benefits

Responsible for programs and services geared to the adult users of the Mount Pleasant Library, focusing on Spanish-speakers, including reference and readers’ advisory, collection development, technology and computer lab support, and programming (in person, online, and take home kits). Mount Pleasant has an inventory of maker space equipment (3D printer, vinyl cutter, sewing machine, and laser cutter) that adult library users can access. The Bilingual Adult Services Librarian will participate in and support multi-library and system-wide initiatives across Community Libraries of Providence, including the Latino Resources Team.
The Bilingual Adult Services Librarian participates in the development of library service as part of the staff team, conducts outreach activities in the neighborhood, supervises volunteers in the adult library, and provides coverage in other departments (circulation/youth services) and at other libraries as needed.
Because 41% of Mount Pleasant residents speak Spanish, the goal is for 25 - 50% of the adult programs and services provided to be offered in Spanish and to reflect the cultural diversity of the neighborhood (Hispanic any race 53.3%; Non-Hispanic Black 15.8%; non-Hispanic White 23.7%),
Hours will include two evenings and every other Saturday.
Please note: Job expectations will be adjusted if the selected candidate is enrolled in library school and increase as classes are completed toward degree attainment.
MLS from an ALA accredited library school. A strong background in programming and in providing library services to adults from a culturally diverse community is preferred; related experience in a community-based organization will be considered. Fluency in English and Spanish is required.
Library students who meet the following qualifications are encouraged to apply:
Must be enrolled in an ALA accredited Master’s Program in Library & Information Studies; experience working in a related field, bilingual (Spanish/English), and/or candidates who have completed some graduate credits in library school will be prioritized. Librarians in Training have the opportunity to gain real world experience in an urban library with professional librarian mentors for support. Librarians in Training are paid as specialists until the MLIS degree is completed at which time they will be promoted to Librarian.
