As a parent, having your young adult child diagnosed with a major mental illness can be can be a time of crisis and upheaval for your child and your family. You may find yourself needing to navigate unfamiliar terrain and dealing with various systems that are confusing and not always connected with each other. And if your child is in school some distance from you that adds another layer of anxiety and concern. This one-hour presentation is designed to make this process less daunting by providing some guidance in putting the pieces of the puzzle together.

A diagnosis of major mental illness is a profound and difficult event for young adults and for those around them. However, with guidance and support, it is also one that can be managed and adapted to by everyone involved.
This presentation is given by Sherri Nelson, PhD, a local clinical psychologist in private practice with extensive experience treating young adults. It is geared towards parents but anyone with an interest in mental illness in young adults is welcome to attend.
