Join us for a 4-week poetry class for adult learners taught by Rosalynde Vas Dias in person at Mount Pleasant Library!

About this event

In this segment of the Why Poetry? series, we’ll explore musicality in poetry by playing with words, collecting and noticing words that chime together, and go beyond end rhyme to find inventive ways to make our poems sing. Together, we’ll do simple, fun exercises to train our ears to hear slant rhymes and consonance. We’ll look at poems that use sonics to up tension and confront mortality. Come prepared to read, write, and chat about the playful work of sound in poetry.

Meet Your Instructor: Rosalynde Vas Dias’ poetry has appeared in Crazyhorse, The Cincinnati Review, West Branch, The Pinch, Laurel Review, The Collagist, The Four Way Review, and elsewhere. Her first book, Only Blue Body, won the Robert Dana Award offered by Anhinga Press. She lives in Providence.

Register through Eventbrite to sign up for the class. Classes run every Tuesday night, 6pm-7:30pm, September 27th through October 18th in person at Mt. Pleasant Library. Please sign up only if you plan on attending all four classes.
