About this event:

Join the library during the month of March for a series of programs to practice mindfulness with the Rhode Island Community of Mindfulness. “Mindfulness is a state of active, open attention to the present” and the practice of mindfulness has many benefits including reducing anxiety, depression, and pain. Register here.

  • Thursday March 2nd 6:30-7:30pm Introduction to Meditation
    • Attendees who would like to meditate on a yoga mat are asked to please bring their own.
  • Thursday March 9th 6:30-7:30pm Mindful Eating Discussion
  • Thursday March 16th 6:30-7:30pm Mindful Movement 
    • Attendees are asked to please bring their own mat.
  • Wednesday March 22nd 6-7:30pm Sangha Gathering includes sessions of sitting and walking meditation and a dharma talk which is a conversation about mindfulness practices
    • Attendees who would like to meditate on a yoga mat are asked to please bring their own.

About the Rhode Island Community of Mindfulness: 

“The Rhode Island Community of Mindfulness is a nurturing and supportive practice community comprised of six meditation groups or sanghas that meet regularly to deepen our understanding of mindfulness and engaged Buddhist practices in the tradition of Vietnamese Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh. COVID-19 Guidelines

-If you are feeling unwell for any reason, please stay home and attend sangha online.

 

-Although we encourage you to be vaccinated and to have received booster shots, we are not mandating that you be vaccinated.

 

-Masks covering your mouth and nose must be worn at all times even when speaking while you are inside church property.

 

-Your mask can be a surgical mask or N95 or KN95. If you do not have one, we will be happy to provide one for you.

 

-If you remove your mask for any reason other than drinking from your own container, you may be asked to leave.

 

-If you test positive for COVID within a week after coming to sangha in person, please email the Joyfully Caretaking Council at . You will remain anonymous. A special notice will be sent to everyone on our email list in order to alert anyone who attended sangha with you, so that they can take precautions regarding their COVID status.

 

-After testing positive for COVID, please do not attend sangha in person until 10 days have passed, and you are also free of symptoms. You are welcome to attend via Zoom during this time.

 

-We request that no food be consumed on the premises except in an emergency, life-threatening crisis.

 

-Please maintain a distance of 4 to 6 feet between you and other attendees.

 

-Do not assume anyone feels comfortable regarding physical contact, i.e. please ask before you hug.
